Nabarro has launched a new climate change and energy group in response to client demand for a more holistic understanding of climate change and related energy issues and to better reflect the level of experience and expertise across the firm.
The group is headed up by partner Tom Bainbridge who joined from Hammonds in March 2007. Tom is building on the existing strengths of the firm as well as leading the group into broader sustainability issues by integrating energy, water and waste experience within the firm into a single offering.
The new group will provide clients with access to expertise and experience in low carbon development, policy and regulation, renewable energy and clean tech, sustainable buildings and development, as well as clean coal, oil and gas. The group, consisting of 20 partners and 23 associates, is successfully drawing on extensive experience in energy, water and waste regulation and utility procurement, as well as fund raising and fund management, property development, planning, construction and litigation in the climate change and energy sectors,
Tom Bainbridge, Head of Climate Change and Energy at Nabarro, commented:
"The issue of climate change has come of age and our new group reflects client demand for a single point at which to access our cross-disciplinary experience of climate change and energy related issues. Clients will benefit from our market leading experience of working to deliver sustainable energy, water and waste solutions.
“An extremely buoyant market for energy and climate change instructions, combined with strong client relationships and the strength and reputation of the firm’s experience resulted in an extremely successful 2007 and we are looking forward to building on this success in our new guise in 2008.”
In 2007, the firm advised on more than 30 energy transactions with a combined value in excess of £3.5 billion, as well as 10 energy related disputes with combined claims of more than half a billion pounds.
Clients include: Andes Energia plc, Caledon Resources plc, Dominion Petroleum Limited, EcoCentroGen, Energem Resources Inc, Hammerson, KBC Peel Hunt, Land Securities, Laing O’Rourke Energy, London Development Agency, Meridian Delta Limited, Mersey Docks & Harbour, Novera Energy Limited, Polimeri, Slough Heat & Power, Quintain Estates & Development, Segro, Sondex plc, The Carbon Trust and UK Coal.
Mark Chadwick, Director, EcoCentroGen said:
“Nabarro’s shared passion to help close deals has resulted in some super human work schedules, but this has never proved an issue, indeed they are viewed by me and my co shareholders as being very much our in house legal department, a credit well deserved.”
